Who Is Emily Pearl?
A native to Bowen Island, she’s a spirited, indepent young woman often carrying a heavy backpack of books and movies from her beloved local library. Despite living with Down Syndrome, she’s highly in tune to her environment and has a knack for saying just the right funny or insightful thing that perfectly captures a moment.
She is full of understanding and potential. As Emily Pearl ages out of the traditional school system, she will require a new structure to develop and prosper and build opportunities to engage with her community. Emily is not alone.
Her Family Is Not Alone Either.
While every parent is challenged with family life, parents of young adults with Down Syndrome maneuver on a different level. Life can revolve around appointments with therapists, doctors and other specialists, and with few support systems along the way.
The Emily Pearl Partnership is a dream that values and serves these families by facilitating education, creating meaningful work opportunities and fostering independence, promoting health and wellness.
